Weren’t you going to Gen Con?

Weren’t you going to Gen Con?

This weekend, Gen Con is in full swing out in Indianapolis. Way back—what feels like years ago—I applied to run games for Paizo at the convention. I figured they’d pass, but to my surprise, they accepted me and wanted me to run quite a few sessions. I said yes and started figuring out what would need to happen to make a week away from home work.

I reached out to friends and family and tried several different ways to get coverage for things back home. As the summer crept closer, though, the pieces just didn’t fall into place the way I hoped.

Meanwhile, the reminders kept coming. Discord pings, emails, prep documents—all signs that time was running short. I didn’t want to leave event organizers with an empty spot on their schedule if I couldn’t commit. By May, I still didn’t have a clear path forward, and it became obvious I needed to bow out.

It was a tough decision, but the right one for where things were at this year. Gen Con wasn’t in the cards, but that doesn’t mean the door is closed. There are other conventions and plenty of chances to meet awesome players and run incredible games in the future.

Trust in your DM, dear players. I will guide you to your destination, even if it's not the one you originally intended.
