Why do you run these games? What led you here? Was leaving your full-time job really worth it?

Why do you run these games? What led you here? Was leaving your full-time job really worth it?

Great question. Here’s the honest answer:

I run these games because storytelling matters. It’s important to give people the chance to tell stories with each other. At the same time, *I* have stories I want to tell too. I have a professional writing degree, and I’ll be damned if I don’t put it to good use.

For a long time, I just couldn’t run as many games as I wanted. The ideas kept coming—stories I wanted to offer, types of games I thought people would love. It turns out people enjoy the games I run quite a bit. Honestly, I'm as surprised as anyone. As long as players keep showing up and asking me to run new things, I’ll keep working to find ways to make it fit. That's the deal.

As for leaving my old job: it was 1000% worth it. My time in automotive marketing taught me a lot. I met some great folks. A steady paycheck was nice. But spending 10 hours a day at a computer grinding through someone else's impossible expectations? Not nice. That life wasn’t fulfilling, and hadn't been for a long time. It was scary, but in the end I made the leap* to focus on the kind of work I actually care about.

I’m thankful every single day to get to do it.
